Spring is in the Air

Hey Everyone!
I'm back today with a post to share with you a card I've created for Scrapbooks by Design!
We all seem to have spring on the mind lately, and the temperatures are finally starting to warm up here!  With the promise of warmer weather coming, my mind turns to the return of song birds, baby kittens and the gorgeous colors as the spring season emerges.  The other thought that comes to mind is the Easter season.  I thought I'd share with you an Easter creation this go round.  
I decided to make a vintage/shabby chic card featuring the Graphic 45 "Sweet Sentiments" collection!

I have to admit that Graphic 45 is one of the  "go to" companies for me as I love their vintage images!
They just remind me of simpler times!
Let's take a closer look...


Don't you just love that basket of chicks the little girl is holding!

As previously mentioned, this card has been created with the Graphic 45 collection "Sweet Sentiments".
Scrapbooks by Design carries this collection in an 8x8 paper pad, stickers and cardstock elements.
I've done quite a bit of fussy cutting from the paper pack for this creation.  You can see the small hatching chick ephemera panel which has the "Happy Easter"sentiment, along with the postage stamp style images along the side of the card.




 The butterflies have been fussy cut from a piece of patterned paper within the collection, and the sentiment on the bottom of the card as well.

 I find that using elements from all of the same collection allows you to create a very quick card that matches beautifully. Each piece has been inked with a brown color around the edges to add to the vintage and aged feeling of the project.  And, the beauty of a vintage/shabby chic creation is that you can add elements from your everyday stash to add to the unique look of the creation.  We all have those few flowers, buttons, ribbons on hand that we have just a few of and would like to use them somehow.  Shabby chic crafting is perfect for the use of these little bits and pieces.  You can see here that I've added some lace, some tulle style flowers on lace, a few straggler buttons, several types of ribbons, a purple button and some yellow paper flowers.  Pull it all together with the right paper collection, and you have a beautiful piece that the lucky recipient is sure to treasure for years to come.  

So, I hope I've inspired you to think about starting your Easter creations early so you'll have them done in time! Use this cooler weather to your advantage to work ahead so that when the sun shines and the melting starts you can enjoy the change of the season.

Time for an Unstampabelles Challenge Reminder...

I'm back today with a mid way reminder for our current challenge at Unstampabelles...the challenge blog where we encourage you to create a project without using any type of stamps!
Don't be afraid...it's easier than it may seem!

I missed joining in at the beginning of the challenge as I was super busy with life, and busy creating my semi finalist project for Heartfelt Creations!
One of these days I will have to get down to blogging what I created and give you all a little peek!

"Shabby Chic with the twist of Time!"

The Belles have made some very lovely creations you must check out if you haven't already, and more have been added to the blog today...so be sure to check those out as well.  You will also notice some new names and faces there, as there was recently a DT call and we have added new members to the team.  Be sure to give them a welcome! 

I had the idea of creating a 3D mantle clock for my project.  I didn't think it would be a problem finding an SVG cutting file for this...but it proved to be much harder than I thought....that is until I came across a blog post done by a designer for SVG Cuts that sparked my interest and imagination.  You really have to check out this post featuring the grandfather clock that this designer used several SVG Cuts cutting files to create.  It is amazing!

I decided that the Juke Box file would be perfect to turn into the mantle clock piece that I was envisioning.  I got busy cutting the pieces with my Silhouette Cameo that I knew I would be needing and started assembling. I used an Elizabeth Crafts Design metal die for the clock face and the hands. I then dug through all of my flowers and laces, etc. to see how I could shabby chic this project up.

I found these beautiful lace stickers at Michaels a few shopping trips ago and was just waiting for the right project to use them on.  I thought the added a nice touch of elegance to the clock.  


I loved having the chance to play with all of my pretty flowers again!  I added a chipboard swirl to the side of the creation.  I looped some lace in several spots among the flowers and for my finishing touches I used a hat pin and an antiqued button.  If you look very closely in this last photo, you will also see that I've used some transparency paper in the clock body.  I embossed it using an embossing folder and my BigShot.  There is an opening in the back of the clock to place a battery powered candle inside...so the whole creation is able to glow and have light shine through that transparent window.  I created this mantle clock with my upcoming craft show in mind.  I think it will make an elegant prop for on my vintage style table display!

A Shabby Chic Collection

Welcome!
Glad you're here!

Today I want to introduce to you a new challenge over at Pile it On!
 It is...

"Shabby Chic"

I want to share with you a collection of cards I created to teach at our local craft store.
They have been created with digital collage sheets that you can find in many Etsy stores.


Here is a close up of each card...my apologies for the poor quality as I quickly snapped the photos in the cellophane envelopes with my camera phone before delivering them for display at the store...





I have to admit that Vintage/Shabby Chic cards are my most favorite to create and play around with!
