Let's Go Sailing...

Welcome!  So glad you're here!
Grab a cup of coffee, tea, hot chocolate or cold beverage and sit with me awhile!
Today's post is gonna be a little longer and a bit picture heavy so you'll need to get comfortable!

Today's post once again features the "Everyday Hero" Collection that Heartfelt Creations released last week!  If you haven't checked out this collection, you must!
It is filled with gorgeous colors and patterns...and it's perfect for those male cards and projects we all find so hard to create at times!

I decided that I wanted to do something more masculine this week...along the line of a gift.
When thinking about what kind of gifts men like to receive, I thought about models.  None of the men in my life have ever had the patience or fascination with putting together a model...but I know that there are many men who do!  Then the idea of a ship popped into my head!  What if I could create a 3D sailing ship....so off to search the internet I went...and came up with a gorgeous cutting file!

Wanna see a peek at how it turned out?

...and how about a look from a bit of a different angle...

I have to say that when I first stumbled upon this SVG cutting file...I was a little worried about whether I would be able to pull this one off!  I knew I was wanting to try for sure because the papers in this Heartfelt Creations line were perfect for it!  Let me put your worries to rest if you're interested in using this file...it was simple...I worked one step at a time and had so much fun!  You will just need a bit of time on your hands...or you work like me and put together parts in between laundry, cooking, chauffeuring kids, etc. Over a couple of days it was all finished!  LOL

Now, I have given this the Heartfelt Creations touch for sure!
Let's take a little photo tour on how I incorporated the stamps, dies, and papers into this project!

Let's begin with the sails in the centre of the ship...

The largest bottom sail has been stamped with the "My World" Cling Stamp.  I thought it looked fabulous and when you view the ship from the other side, you can see the globe image as well.  Moving along to the second sail, (it's kind of hard to see in this photo...sorry)...I've stamped the pocket watch image onto one of the corners using the "My Hero" Cling Stamp.  The smallest sail I left as it was cut out because I knew that I wanted to add the fancy Heartfelt Creations die cut over it!  I love the arrows and swirls on this die cut and I thought it would look fabulous as a fancy sail on its own!  I love how it turned out!
I've stamped the circular sentiment from the "Everyday Hero" Cling Stamp Set which reads "You make the World a Better Place".

Let's move along to the flags on the top of the ship...

Each of the sentiments on these flags have been created with sentiment stamps that come in this fabulous collection.  But let us not stop there...each of the flags themselves have been created with the arrow die that is available with this collection as well.  I've simply cut off the tip of the arrow so I was able to apply it to the ship!  And, let's not forget the anchor die that comes along as well...you cannot have a ship without an anchor can you?

I added a brownish color brad to the anchor very much the same color of the paper to give it the impression of actually being attached to the ship.  I'm not sure how many anchors a real ship has...but this one got an anchor on each side!  LOL  I have to say that I love it that the sail at the front of the vessel actually has sails on it from the paper collection.  I was a little hesitant about some of the image designs that would appear because the paper in the collection is double sided...but I must say that it all works!  It adds interest to the look of the creation and since all the colors and patterns blend together so well it's a win win!  All of the sails landed up having a dark teal color on the back, and the ship looks as great when you look at it from the back and other side as it does in the photos here.

Lastly, I added a ticket sentiment to the back of the ship!
Here's a peek...(sorry the picture is not the greatest)...

I chose to go with that particular ticket sentiment because it matches the sentiment strip I used all the way around the ship.  Lots of sentiments on this creation I know...I have no doubt that a person receiving this would be sure that they were special and an everyday hero to the person that they received it from.  I think that this would make such a cool gift for a teenager who loves the water, all the way up to the senior who has a love of ships and or sailing.  Imagine throwing a few chocolate coins into the vessel...too much fun!

Well, I hope I've inspired you to do some creating of your own...and hopefully I have not bored you with yet another 3D paper project!  The collections from Heartfelt Creations are so versatile, don't ever be afraid to use them to create with your electronic die cutting machine!
For more creative inspiration, please be sure to check out the HC blog!

I'd love to know what you thought of today's creation...please feel free to leave me a comment!

Until next time...

Begin by cutting out base shape of ship in black card stock using your electronic die cutting machine. Assemble the base shape of the boat.  Choose the patterned paper from the Everyday Heroes Collection that you wish to use for each piece and cut those with your electronic die cutting machine as well.  Ink all edges of the designer paper pieces using a brown colored ink.  Stamp the large My World Cling Stamp image onto the largest sail, and stamp the pocket watch image from the My Hero Cling Stamp onto the corner of the mid sized sail.  Using the photo for the SVG file, assemble the ship as shown.  Adhere the sentiment strip to the entire ship around the centre as shown.  Die cut two anchors from the Everyday Heroes Collection using black card stock.  Place a brad through each anchor and then adhere one to each side of the ship near the nose.  Die cut the large ornamental shaped die from a coordinating piece of patterned paper and stamp with the circular Everyday Hero sentiment image. Place a brad in each hole of the die cut.  Adhere to the mid sized and small sized sails in the centre of the ship.  Choose a ticket sentiment from the paper collection and adhere to the very back of the boat.  Die cut three arrows with the arrow die in the collection.  Stamp three different sentiments from the cling stamp sets in the Everyday Heroes collection onto each of the flags (arrows).  Emboss each sentiment with clear embossing powder and set using heat tool.  Repeat for the other side of each flag.  Attach one flag to the top of  each mast.   You are now ready to gift an amazing piece of paper art to one of your everyday heroes, or keep for yourself and display on a shelf or mantle.

That is so amazing and awesome. I do not have the patience for this type of work. Over the years I have had to help the kids with models of all types and materials and when I see one, I just go numb. I am amazing at your creativity and patience!!! This is the best project by far with this collection!
